What is a digipak?

A digipak is a type of packaging for CDs or DVDs that is made of cardboard and has plastic trays inside to hold the disc(s). It is designed to look more like a book or a small album than a traditional jewel case. The digipak was first introduced in 1998 as a more environmentally friendly alternative to plastic jewel cases. It is often used for special editions, re-releases, or collector's items, and can include additional artwork or inserts. Some digipaks also feature multiple trays to hold multiple discs or bonus material. The term "digipak" is a registered trademark of the CD packaging company AGI-Shorewood.
